Public Charging Infrastructure Strategy for EWA Malta
GreenBee supported the Energy and Water Agency (EWA) in Malta to develop a strategy for the deployment of public charging infrastructure, ensuring that electric vehicle owners have convenient access to the public infrastructure. EWA, the local authority, holds the view that service provision should remain under government control to ensure that every resident has access to reliable charging services.
Along with Ricardo Energy & Environment, we have analyzed the best operating model tailored to Malta's unique circumstances. As part of the EU, the island must meet regulatory obligations, necessitating a structured and regulated approach to market development. This model is a bespoke approach designed to optimize the deployment and technical and operational requirements of the public infrastructure. Resulting from our work, the government shall implement a central service platform (eMSP), assuring access for EV drivers to the charging infrastructure across every infrastructure operator. GreenBee has been instrumental in supporting the procurement process for Charge Point Operators (CPOs) and charging station operators. GreenBee is currently assisting with the specification of requirements and the procurement process. This involves selecting vendors and integrating the system into existing government processes, such as billing and customer service. Additionally, we are mindful of the island's rich history, ensuring that the development respects archaeological sites and historical considerations. Our strategy lays the groundwork for the deployment of a robust and accessible public charging infrastructure network, facilitating widespread adoption of EVs and driving towards a greener, more sustainable transportation ecosystem.
